In 1981, J.M. Masson was fired from his position as Projects Director of the Sigmund Freud Archives, shortly after suggesting in a talk in New Haven that a key theory Freud had developed in 1895 and later repudiated - the so-called seduction theory - may have been valid after all. This talk scandalized the Freudian orthodoxy, as reported in Time, Newsweek, and The New York Times.

Here for the first time are the letters from Freud, long kept from public view, which stirred this controversy. On the basis of these letters and other new information Masson discovered at the Archives and elsewhere in Europe, he has written a devastating and highly controversial expose of the origins of psychoanalysis. In 1895, Sigmund Freud formulated what was perhaps his most profound theory: that emotional disturbances in adults stem from actual early traumatic experiences, the knowledge of which has been repressed. But Freud eventually renounced this theory in favor of a new view, that his women patients had "fantasized" their early memories of rape and seduction - a view on which the whole budding science of psychoanalysis would be based.

Masson makes available previously unpublished letters from Freud's closest friend, Wilhelm Fliess, which reveal that Freud had grave doubts about abandoning the "seduction theory." Masson discovered that not only had Freud read the contemporary literature documenting the high incidence of sexual abuse of children, he had in all likelihood witnessed autopsies of children who had been raped and murdered. That Freud abandoned his seduction theory, Masson argues, was a failure of courage rather than a clinical or theoretical insight.

As a result, most psychiatrists and psychoanalysts have in effect been reluctant to trust the memories of their patients, women in particular, about the traumas they experienced in childhood. Like Freud, they see such traumas as fantasy rather than reality. This cover-up of the truth, Masson asserts, has poisoned the entire profession. (Source)

Unwin’s magnum opus showing that sexual repression is key to maintaining civilization.

In the 2010s, Mark Fisher asked why culture had effectively stagnated since the 1990s. Anthropologist J. D. Unwin had already answered his question 80 years earlier.

In Sex and Culture, Unwin shows that societies can only maintain creative energy as long as they severely curtail sexual freedom. Within one generation of a sexual revolution, that energy dissipates, and the society becomes culturally sterile and lapses into decline. 20250421 البابا بنديكتوس السادس عشر يتهم معارضيه بـ"إسكاته" 4 مايو/ أيار 2020 🙏🙏🙏💖 البابا السابق بنديكتوس السادس عشر متوسطاً عدداً من الكرادلة في الفاتيكان عام 2014 اتهم بابا الفاتيكان السابق بنديكتوس السادس عشر، لأول مرة علناً، معارضيه بمحاولة "إسكاته". وجاءت تلك الاتهامات في كتاب سيرة جديد صدر اليوم الاثنين في ألمانيا بعنوان "بنديكتوس السادس عشر - سيرة حياة الجزء الأول"، ومن المتوقع أن يصدر بالإنجليزية في الخريف المقبل. تضمّن الكتاب مقابلات مع رجل الدين الألماني جوزيف راتزنغر البالغ من العمر 93 عاماً، وقد انتخب حبراً أعظم في عام 2005، واستقال من منصبه عام 2013. يقول البابا إنّه كان ضحيّة "لتشويه خبيث للحقيقة"، إثر إبداء رأيه في نقاشات لاهوتية، بحسب ما نقلت وكالات أنباء اطلعت على مقتطفات من الكتاب. وفي الكتاب يربط البابا السابق بين "زواج المثليين" و"الإجهاض"، وبين "القوّة الروحية للمسيح الدجال". ويقول: "قبل ألف عام، كان الجميع يعتقد أن زواج المثليين أمر عبثي، والآن، بات أيّ معارض للفكرة يتعرّض للنبذ من المجتمع. والأمر ذاته ينطبق على الإجهاض أو على تخليق أجنة بشرية في المختبر". وفي الكتاب، يحذّر بنديكتوس من قوة المسيح الدجال الروحية، مذكراً بالحاجة للصلاة لمقاومته، وبالخطر على "العقيدة المسيحية الصحيحة" في المجتمع الحديث. ويقول إنّ "الخطر على الكنيسة لا يتمثّل بالفضائح الداخلية، بل يأتي من الخارج، ومن ديكتاتورية ما يسمى الأيديولوجيات الإنسانية". بيتر سيوالد يوقع كتاباً عن بنديكتوس السادس عشر عام 2016 صدر الصورة،MATTHIAS BALK التعليق على الصورة، مؤلف الكتاب بيتر سيوالد خلال توقيعه كتاب آخر عن بنديكتوس عام 2016 بحسب متابعين للملف، فإنّ هذه التصريحات تعدّ أشدّ انتقادات يوجهها بنديكتوس علناً "للنسبية الأخلاقية وأجندة المثليين"، كما يعرّفها بعض قادة الإكليروس الكاثوليك ذوي الخلفيات المحافظة. فتح أرشيف الفاتيكان الخاص بالبابا في عهد النازية يقول بنديكتوس في الكتاب إنّه لا يريد الخوض في تحليل الأسباب التي تجعل الناس ينوون إسكاته، واصفاً ردود الفعل عليه من اللاهوتيين الألمان بالـ"مُضلَّلة وسيئة النية". وفي ذلك إشارة إلى الكنيسة الكاثوليكية في ألمانيا التي يقودها رجال دين يتبعون نهجاً معاكساً لتوجهات راتزينغر التقليدية. وينفي بنديكتوس السادس عشر وجود خلاف بينه وبين البابا فرنسيس، قائلاً "إنّ صداقتهما الشخصية تعمقت ونمت". وكان البابا السابق قد اتهم بالتدخل بمسار خلفه، بعد نشر آراء سلبية له حول مسألة الغاء عزوبية الكهنة، وبعد ابعاد سكرتير بنديكتوس السابق، عن دائرة فرنسيس الضيق. ويتكوّن الكتاب الجديد من ألف صفحة، وهو من تأليف الصحفي بيتر سيوالد، وهو صاحب كتب عدة تشارك بكتابتها مع البابا السابق. ويضمّ الكتاب مقابلات مع بنديكتوس السادس عشر أجرت على مراحل، وآخرها في خريف عام 2018.
